Suffolk Village Cycle Ride 2008 - Sunday 25th May
Each year on the Sunday before the last Bank Holiday in May we hold a Suffolk Village Cycle Ride of approximately 10, 25 and 50 miles. The route varies each year, so it is always a new challenge. In association with Stowmarket Lions Club, the Suffolk Support Group will be holding the Suffolk Village Cycle Ride this year on Sunday 25th May. There will be the regular three courses 10, 25 and 50 miles taking you through some of Suffolk's beautiful countryside and villages. First aid, free water holes and checkpoints with radio contact will be set up on all courses, starting from Stowupland Sports and Social Club on the B1120 behind Stowupland Village Hall. Entry charges will be £10 for forms received before 15th May and £15 after, and on the day. Sponsor/donation forms will be sent out on receipt of entry forms. We would like to express our thanks to all who make this event a success. Especially our supporters at the checkpoints, Raynet & St John Ambulance. Please contact us if you would like to take part. Suffolk Village Cycle Ride 2007This year's cycle ride was affected by the forecast of high winds and heavy rain for 27th May 2007. It held off long enough for most to get back home without getting too wet! We had a good turnout of 80 riders from all parts of the south-east counties with the Chairman of Stowupland Parish Council Jerry Voden setting the way.

The Suffolk Support Group wishes to thank all who helped on the day. Suffolk Village Cycle Ride 2004The 2004 Suffolk Village Cycle Ride was held on Sunday 30th May, starting and finishing at Stowupland Sports and Social Club (with kind permission from the S.S.C. committee) We included a 10 miles Family ride this year in addition to our 25 miles and 50 miles. This year, the cyclists who took part in the Suffolk Village Cycle Ride raised over £5,000 - and money is still coming in. Thank you! We appreciated the feedback after the ride, and will be holding the event in the same area next year. Some feedback from the cyclists who took part: "That was the best 50-mile ride I have ever cycled!""I really enjoyed that!" "After getting home and relaxing, I now realise how much I enjoyed the 50-mile ride!" "Better then the London to Brighton ride!" "Far better then the Woodbridge Costal ride!" "Where's Melvyn - I'll kill him!" (Quote from Mandy) Many of the cyclists on the day said how much they had enjoyed the ride and it was one of the best they had cycled. Our thanks go to all who helped. Gavin Douglas who set the courses, Chris and Cheryl Hawes who helped set the signs and manned a check point, Jane Cole at registration, Christine from Hadleigh, Steve and Sally Cooke, John Burien, Keith and Victoria George, all who manned checkpoints, and Heather Pugh who helped out on the day, not forgetting the committee and staff at Stowupland Sports and Social Club. Russell Clarke for organising Raynet, and David for St John Ambulance. Please except our thanks for your Members' support. Thanks to all who took part! Photos of Suffolk Village Cycle Ride 2004 |
