The Anthony Nolan Trust

Shirley Nolan established the Anthony Nolan Trust in 1974 in an attempt to save the life of her son Anthony, who was suffering from an immune deficiency disease. Sadly he died five years later, aged seven, without finding a matching donor.

The Trust has since grown to manage the world's first, and one of the largest, fully independent registers of potential blood stem cell donors. There are well over a quarter of a million volunteers on the register and the Trust receives over 6,000 requests each year from people who need blood stem transplants to save their lives.

Melvyn & Anne Douglas

Mr Len Rogers, who was then the regional organiser of The Anthony Nolan Trust, formed the Suffolk Support Group in 1994. Melvyn & Anne Douglas have run the Support Group since its formation.

The Support Group has gone from strength to strength with the help of volunteers joining the register to help save lives, and by raising money through sponsored events, with over £100,000 being raised in 9 years. A report on each year's activities is produced at the end of September:
